A common complaint of many patients is that their ears are “stopped up”, “plugged”, “full”, or that they have a feeling of “pressure” in their ears. When this occurs,it might be simply ear wax but it is usually a symptom of some other condition. It may be due to fluid in the middle ear space, an inadequately functioning eustachian tube (the tube connecting the ear to the nose), or increased pressure in the inner ear, the fluid-filled organ of hearing and balance. Examination by a doctor, hearing tests, and tests of other ear functions are necessary to reveal the cause of stopped up ears. It is very important that the correct diagnosis be made in order to begin appropriate treatment.
